8 Mind-Blowing Revelations Hidden In Rise Of Skywalker
2. Ezra Is Out There And So Are More Jedi
The notable absence of Ezra as one of the Jedi voices Rey hears implies that he's still out there. This combined with the possibility of other Jedi survivors like Mace Windu means there's a chance of other independent Jedi factions unconnected to Luke Skywalker. A possibility that could lead to a whole new kind of conflict.
In the climactic moment in Rise of Skywalker Rey connects with many notable past Jedi, including Ashoka Tano and Kanan Jarrus but tellingly not Ezra Bridger. This means that not only is he likely alive during these events but creates a few interesting possibilities.
If Ezra is alive, there is a better than even chance that he’s taken at least a couple of apprentices in the last thirty plus years (Baby Yoda?) and that suggests that there could be a Jedi Order entirely unconnected to Luke’s operating somewhere in the galaxy. Note, in Star Wars Rebels Obi-Wan and Yoda seemed determined to keep Luke and Ezra from being too aware of each other.
That’s because they realized that if the Jedi are to have a future they must decentralize and operate as independent cells, not unlike rebels. So, assuming Ezra ever came back from where he went and wasn’t crazy, evil or completely disillusioned with everything.... There is still a small chance that he’s D.J. the random scumbag from Last Jedi.
But again, assuming for the moment that Ezra is still a Jedi then he likely chose to stay far away from Luke’s Jedi faction and do his own thing.
The possibility of a second Jedi Order operating by its own beliefs also presents the possibility that the two groups of Jedi who both believe they are doing what is right could come into conflict. A scenario which is potentially far more interesting than a typical light vs dark story.
Also, if as speculated earlier Mace Windu survived and continued to operate in secret on Corusant there is a chance of yet a third Order of Jedi, one based in the old Order and potentially both more skilled and more ruthless than either of the other factions. This is all not even considering the possibilities carbon freezing brings into the equation. There could be a few truly ancient Jedi out there just waiting to be woken up to impose their ancient values on a galaxy gone mad.
Any way you slice it a feud between multiple Jedi Orders seems like a hell of a fun ride. So, sign me up!
