Showing up for the very first time during 1977's Star Wars, Robert Clarke's Colonel Wullf Yularen - who was eventually named in Decipher's Star Wars Customizable Card Game after the film released - could be found seated during the infamous meeting which sees Darth Vader Force choking an Imperial admiral in front of Grand Moff Tarkin.

Right away, fans were fascinated by the only person in the room wearing a white uniform.

What did this mean? Well, as it turned out, this was actually an outfit worn by members of the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB), something which would eventually be explored in future Star Wars projects.

This intriguing background Imperial figure certainly got the attention of not only fans, but the folks bringing the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie to the big-screen.

After appearing in that film, Yularen would go on to become a popular recurring character in the subsequent animated series. That show gave fans a look at his life during the time of the Galactic Republic where he actually served as an Admiral alongside the likes of Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

This one-time background colonel and eventual ally of Grand Admiral Thrawn - one who just so happened to be Thrawn trilogy author Timothy Zahn's favourite background character - would then ultimately pop up in Rebels, Andor, and even Zahn's 2017 canon Thrawn book in the years that followed.

He may have only had about a minute of overall screen-time in Episode IV - A New Hope, but those seconds were enough to get him noticed and planted a seed that would grow into a surprisingly important Star Wars character.
