8 Most Underrated Lord Of The Rings Characters

5. Gamling

Gamling Lord Of The Rings
New Line Cinema

The epic battles from Lord of the Rings present you with a sea of clashing bodies as the forces of good and evil duke it out. However, the incredible visual effects and breathtaking stunts aren't the only things that keep you invested; it's the familiar faces scattered within these epic crowds that draw you in. While this character may not get much exposure, he's a face you can spot in almost every conflict.

Gamling is presented early on as a dedicated servant to King Théoden of Rohan. He's present during this ruler's days under the thumb of Saruman/Grima and stays by his side throughout the rest of the trilogy, fighting in the Warg attack, Helm's Deep and Pelennor Fields. During all of these clashes, he's shown to be a strong fighter who is loyal to a fault.

It's easy to see why the guy is overlooked, as he doesn't say much and primarily acts as a subordinate. However, his constant presence is one of the few comforting factors for King Théoden and viewers. A friendly face is never something to scoff at.
