8 Most Underrated Lord Of The Rings Characters
3. Faramir
It makes perfect sense for this Gondorian captain to find himself here, as his entire character was built upon being underrated. No underappreciation stings more than the cold shoulder of your own father.
Faramir made his debut in The Two Towers, capturing Frodo/Sam/Gollum and revealing that he was the brother of the recently deceased Boromir. He then intended to take the Ring from Frodo as a gift for his father Denethor, but in the end, he did what his sibling couldn't and let the Ring go.
From there, Faramir's journey was wrought with struggle, as he returned to Gondor and was scolded by his dad, eventually leading him into a suicide mission, which he thankfully survived - albeit very closely after Denethor tried to cremate him prematurely.
Overall, Faramir proved himself to be a truly worthy Prince and delivered one of the most emotional subplots in the series. But, despite this, he's often brushed aside in favour of the mainline Fellowship members, including his brother. This proves that even after his death, Boromir still steals the spotlight.
