8 Reasons Batman V Superman Will Top Captain America: Civil War
1. Civil War Can Never Do The Comic Book Justice
If Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice was actually based on The Dark Knight Returns rather than just inspired by it, that too might have this same problem. Of course, Captain America: Civil War isn't a direct adaptation either, but it still shares its name and premise with a series featuring a lot of moments fans love which Marvel can't adapt.
Spider-Man being involved is obviously a bonus, but the fact that Civil War is being used to reboot him means that an established Peter Parker unmasking to the world won't happen. The Fantastic Four can't show up either (due to rights issues), while many other character who were key parts of the comic just don't exist at this point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
All of that points to the movie being unable to do the comic book justice.
It can certainly create something new and great, but however excellent the end product is, there's inevitably going to be fans who are disappointed by the lack of certain characters or plot beats. Batman V Superman doesn't have that issue and can instead look forward to being praised for clearly being inspired by what readers loved from The Dark Knight Returns.
It may not be fair, but that lack of expectations will help Batman V Superman shine while Civil War is bogged down in nitpicks about this, that, and the other!
