8 Reasons Triple 9 Could Be The Most Underrated Film Of 2016
4. It Isn't Afraid To Be A Little Bit Strange
Kate Winslet, the English Rose Oscar winner, plays a Russian mob boss' wife and speaks with an accent which is only marginally better than Chekov in star trek. That's the kind of general weirdness we have the pleasure, nay, the honour of witnessing with Triple 9.
The film is full of likeable, charming actors playing abhorrent villains. Kate Winslet is not the only one revelling the chance of being bad. Anthony Mackie, The Falcon himself, is a conniving coward of a cop, and Love Actually's Chiwetel Ejiofor is the take-no-sh*t leader of this band of criminals. We even get to see Daryl Dixon and Jesse Pinkman as brothers!
On top of this we get the sight of Woody Harrelson in a wolf mask, Woody Harrelson smoking what's left of a variety of narcotics he finds in bins, and Woody Harrelson generally joking and quipping wherever he goes, regardless of the drama or no-nonsense violence. Okay, maybe it's just Woody Harrelson.
Still, the film has a sense of peculiarity that helps ensure it is nothing but captivating.
