8 Science Fiction Movies Ruined By Their Twists

3. Planet Of The Apes

Tim Burton's take on the famous science fiction movie has come with its fans, as well as its haters - for a plot twist that has no place being in the movie and does far more harm than it does good. Potentially thought up to offer something unexpected from the original, Burton's manipulation of time travelling causes more problems than its worth.

When astronaut Mark Wahlberg crashes through a vortex onto an unknown planet in the future, he discovers a civilisation where apes rule over humans with frightening hatred, and endeavours to escape back through the portal that took him there.

Instead of us getting the key realisation that IT WAS EARTH IN THE DISTANT FUTURE ALL ALONG OH MY GOD, Burton instead tries to trump the original by having the planet as a separate entity. The leader then manages to somehow change the course of human history and turn Earth into ANOTHER planet of the apes, but how, or why, or just... what, is never really explained.

After much fan speculation and discussion online, it's assumed that alternate dimensions are supposed to be the key to Burton's piece, but at the end of the day just don't fix what isn't broken. The confusion and disconnection just serves to undermine the rest of the movie.
