8 Short Deleted Scenes That Almost Ruined Great Movies
6. Sgt. Candy - Terminator: Rise Of The Machines
The Deleted Scene: Thanks to the time travel mechanics, every Terminator movie is simultaneously a sequel and prequel to the original film. What this means practically is that each new instalment can't help but drop painfully obvious foreshadowing to please the fans. This was pushed to its limit when Rise Of The Machines almost included a scene that detailed the genisys (sic) of the T-800, where a Southern-accented Sergeant Candy (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) is revealed as the physical model for the robots, while a grumpy, inexplicably Austrian suit provides the voice. Urgh.
Why It's So Bad: From a timeline perspective it makes little sense. Skynet/Cyberdyne/Cydersystems/whatever are shown developing the ultimate killing machine back in 2004, yet we know from the original film the Arnie model wasn't being used until some time in the 2020s.
Of course, to get worked up about continuity in a series that views consistency strictly as an optional perk is a bit off-point. What's more potent about the scene is how it just completely destroys the terror of the original movie. Having Darth Vader scream "noooo!" at the loss of Padmé was a bit cringe. Seeing the origin one of the most deadly movie machines reduced to a gurning, Texan Schwarzenegger is a flat-out crime.
