8 Star Wars Movie Scenes Where Reshoots Are Painfully Obvious
6. Laura Dern's Dubbed Dialogue Doesn't Sync With Her Mouth - The Last Jedi
Like The Force Awakens, most of The Last Jedi's reshoots aren't too obvious in the finished film. The major alterations story-wise came on Canto Bite, specifically the introduction of Broom Boy, the Force sensitive kid who closes out the movie's final shot.
However, according to /Film, which released a rundown of all the changes during production shortly after the movie debuted, Laura Dern's Admiral Holdo was also tweaked after production wrapped. Apparently, her relationship with Poe Dameron was even more abrasive initially, having to be smoothed over with new dialogue after the fact.
/Film points out that this is noticeable in the finished cut, with Dern's ADR work not matching up with the character's mouth. The new dialogue usually comes in as the camera cuts away from her face to try and make the juxtaposition less obvious, but it's still noticeable.
ADR is a normal part of the process, but the mismatch of audio and video as well as cutaways do make Holdo's scenes a bit less elegant.
Story wise, Holdo's relationship with Poe did raise huge questions at the time of release. Holdo's intentions and attitude towards Poe were lost on some viewers, and the last-minute change in their dynamic in reshoots could explain why.
