8 Times Hollywood Didn't Care What You Think

1. Treating "Luke's First Words" Like A Joke - Star Wars: The Last Jedi

"What are Luke Skywalker's first words going to be?", "What's his role in the new movies?!"

An entire movie's marketing and events teased this out, seeing The Force Awakens end on a literal cliffhanger (geographically speaking). The first glimpse of The Last Jedi we got was Johnson and his team still on the island of Ahch-To, filming the continuation of Rey beckoning Luke to take back his lightsaber.

And what happened? He comedically tossed it over his shoulder.

Forget what this is SUPPOSED to represent (the disillusionment of a Jedi Master in the face of a never-ending war of light vs. dark) - the way this is shot and acted is just plain wrong.

It's worth pointing out and admiring the fact that Rian Johnson was given full creative control on The Last Jedi. He wrote AND directed a Star Wars movie - something only George Lucas had done until now.

Sadly though - and keep in mind that that the Lucasfilm Story Group, Kathleen Kennedy and everyone else signed off on this stuff - we got a notably off-kilter scene, instead of what should've been cinema history.
