8 Upcoming Movies Everybody Already Hates

5. The Uncharted Movie

Uncharted Tom Holland
Naughty Dog/Sony

The Hate: It will centre on a young Nathan Drake, so is not the traditional Uncharted movie fans were expecting.

Making an Uncharted movie should be the easiest thing in the world.

Cast a charming, witty actor as a Drake's Fortune-era Nathan Drake, whip up a story about an ancient lost treasure, film on-location in a picturesque tropical jungle, and you're all set.

Unfortunately, Sony seem to be struggling with the whole thing. Uncharted has been in development for years and has seen many directors join, only to jump ship. It wasn't until recently that Spider-Man: Homecoming's Tom Holland was cast as a young Nathan Drake and the project began to move forward, but this was not the development fans were hoping for.

We meet young Nate briefly in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, but these segments aren't representative of the Uncharted experience. The games are all about explosive action, the banter between Nate, Sully and their companions, and the memorable villains who clash with our heroes - but how will the film deliver this with a young boy at the centre of the plot?

Also, Holland was cast because Sony were impressed with his performance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, not because he's a great fit for the material. The studio are trying to build a franchise around an actor instead of around a great story, which is a bad, bad decision - Tom Cruise's The Mummy, anyone?

It's infuriating that, after waiting for so long for the movie to happen, we're not going to get a simple Uncharted movie, which is all it needs to be.

If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
