9 Actors Who Played Both Iconic Super Heroes And Villains

5. Ray Stevenson - The Punisher / Firefly

Ray Stevenson is one of those reliable character actors who always brings something interesting to any character he plays, and Hollywood briefly flirted with making him leading man material with Punisher: War Zone.

Stevenson looks like he stepped off the page of a Tim Bradstreet cover, and he played the role with the right level of toughness while hinting at the wounded soul underneath. Stevenson is – arguably – the best screen Punisher to date, but the movie’s failure meant he never got another lead role.

He did manage to steal some scenes with G.I.: Retaliation, where he played henchman Firefly. He practically chews the set down in all of his scenes, and he brings a real spark - and a lot of ham - to an underwhelming film. He even convincingly holds his own against The Rock in the final battle, which isn’t the easiest thing to do.

Stevenson also portrayed Volstagg in the Thor movies, but The Punisher is the role fans love him for.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
