9 Actors Who Played Both Iconic Super Heroes And Villains

4. Arnold Schwarzenegger - Conan / Mr. Freeze

For a man who looks tailor made to be the lead in comic book movies, it’s a surprise Arnie has only appeared in a handful. He was attached at various stages to movies like Terry Gilliam’s Watchmen, Sgt. Rock and James Cameron’s Spider-Man, but nothing ever came of them.

It was the role of Conan that made audiences aware of Schwarzenegger, and he was just about perfectly cast as the muscle-bound, near mute savage. He may not be the best actor ever but it’s hard to imagine anyone else pulling off the role like he did, and he gives it a brutal intensity but with a hint of honour beneath it all; it’s a shame the character became a cartoon for the sequel.

Mr. Freeze from Batman & Robin is another story. It’s doubtful even the greatest actor in the world could have done anything with that screenplay, but Arnie dials the awfulness up to eleven in a performance so hammy they as well have cast Porky Pig. Needless to say, it’s not his finest hour.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
