9 Awful Movies That Bankrupted Studios

4. Titan A.E. (Fox Animation Studios)

Titan A.E. Titan A.E. wasn't a great or even particularly good film, though on sheer appearances alone, it probably should have done better business than $36 million against a $75 million budget. The problem was how the film was marketed; Fox had no idea how to promote the thing to audiences, and as such didn't latch onto any particular demographic. The result is that most people weren't sure what they would be going to see, and so simply didn't bother. As a result of the film's catastrophic failure, Fox had to not only lay off hundreds of workers, but also close down their animation division altogether. We probably shouldn't be surprised when Fox makes a bad call anymore, but still, they fell at the most basic of hurdles; sell your damn movie.
