9 Better Villains Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 Should Have Used
4. Dormammu
One thing that has been a bit of chin scratcher where the Marvel movies are concerned is their one-use villain strategy. Unless you’re Tom Hiddleston’s Loki you have a shelf life shorter than discounted milk.
Although admittedly, the MCU hasn’t exactly wowed movie-goers with the most exciting antagonists – it would be nicer to see one with an arc longer than a single feature. What better place to start than with the fiery astral demon who stole the show in Doctor Strange, Dormammu?
While he may appear out of the Guardians’ league - the power to manipulate space and time is slightly more impressive than an anthropomorphized racoon and a talking tree - that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been defeated by the plucky underdogs before.
After Doctor Strange falls to Dormammu in a confusing narrative relating to time travel and alternate Earths, Star Lord's team manage to kick seven shades of sulphur out of him by using their ship's teleportation ability and multiple punches to the face. There’s no way that scenario wouldn’t sell tickets.
If they’re really looking to up the stakes for the sequel, they could do a lot worse than having the Guardians go head to head with a foe that requires more than a distracting dance to defeat him.
