9 Changes Warner Bros Wishes It Could Make To Its DC Universe

6. Superman Rebooted The Right Way

One of the biggest reasons the DC cinematic universe was built on shaky foundations is because it failed to get the comic book giant’s most famous character right at the first, or second, attempt.

Superman really shouldn’t be that difficult. He’s an archetypal symbol of truth, justice and superheroic optimism, not a brooding alien who demolishes half of Metropolis without a sparing a thought for collateral damage before snapping his rival’s neck (as necessary as that was in context).

Batman v Superman did little to rectify the Last Son of Krypton’s image problem, so killing him off at the hands of a bad CGI Doomsday seemed like the right thing to do. At least this gives Justice League the opportunity to resurrect him in a traditional mould and weave this soft reboot into the story.

It’s fair to assume Warner and DC aren’t best pleased with the way the most iconic character on their books has been handled on screen. Clearly Man of Steel was envisioned as the Batman Begins of the Superman franchise, but it hasn’t panned out that way.

There’s a place for experimentation and deconstruction when dealing with time-tested properties, but characters like Superman are too archetypal for this treatment, as DC has found out the hard way.

Still, at least Henry Cavill looks the part.
