9 Comic Book Movies That Almost Had Way Better Endings
2. The Self-Referential Ending - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
No, not the recently awful Michael Bay-produced adaptation, but the less awful - but still pretty awful - comic book movie from 1990. The plot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles concerns the titular foursome and their attempts to stop the evil villain Shredder. Which they do, of course, culminating in a scene that sees Shredder being crushed by a garbage truck, and April O'Neil and Casey Jones hooking up as the turtles cheer on. A pretty standard ending, you'll agree. It's a shame, then, that the filmmakers decided to cut the far funnier and more meta-inclined alternate ending - one which fans weren't even sure existed for a long time until it was found to have been included on the German DVD release. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oSYXyKZM8k The alternate ending would have seen April in the office of a publisher, trying to sell him the idea of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Heroes" as a comic book franchise (something he declares to be "too far-fetched"). Outside his widow, however, the turtles themselves have gathered, which causes April to burst into fits of laughter. How very Deadpool, huh?
