It already goes without saying that Gary Oldman is a master of reinvention: over the years he's changed his look for movies wildly, playing characters as diverse as Sid Vicious, Dracula, Drexl Spivey and Mason Verger. You'd barely be able to pick them out as the same actor.

This year sees his most astonishing transformation yet as he plays Winston Churchill at a particularly fraught time in his leadership of Britain during the second world war. The promotional image released of Oldman in make-up is absolutely remarkable and utterly convincing. However they've achieved it, they've captured all of the subtleties of Churchill's face in a way that other attempted transformations (like Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock simply failed).
