9 Harsh Truths DC Need To Face About Their Upcoming Movies
9. DC's Lead Actors Aren't Anywhere Near As Charismatic As Marvel's
Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Pratt... that's a lot of charisma over at Marvel, isn't it? Entertaining and effortlessly witty actors who command the screen with little effort - a natural presence and aura just oozes off 'em. Compare that, then, to the likes of solemn Ben Affleck, straight-faced Henry Cavill, super dull Jason Momoa, bland Gal Gadot and... well, you get the point. When it comes to their own slate of actors, DC have opted for a bunch of somewhat flat and lifeless performers. They're all moulded in the same bombastically serious tone, lacking the fun and charisma of the actors assembled over at Marvel. Which simply means that they just can't compare. This seems like a cruel observation, of course, but it's true: even Will Smith, a wonderfully charismatic actor when he needs to be, seems to have lost his touch in Suicide Squad. Going by the trailer, he's been poised in a dry and soulless fashion. Why? This approach could prove detrimental to the DC Cinematic Universe, of course, because ultimately it's the characters that keep these franchises ticking over; having boring actors playing all their superheroes puts DC at a major disadvantage, whereas over at Marvel things feel a whole lot more playful and inspired - there's a real charm offensive going on.
