9 Incredible Movie Scenes Let Down By Awful Acting
1. Joker - Gary's Reaction To Randalls Death
Congratulations Joaquin Phoenix!
Who would have thought that one of the scenes in Joker that got him his Academy Award might also be a scene with the most awful acting. Not from Joaquin of course, or even the poor man he stabs and bludgeons to death. But from the third party in the room.
Let's imagine none of us have ever seen something so vitriol in person, so trying to channel the appropriate reaction might be a little difficult. But Leigh Gill's performance of a man reacting to seeing his friend/colleague being savagely murdered is downright embarrassing.
Gary's reaction is unexplained; his reaction and reads of the lines are less to do with witnessing violence, but more like the way you would react if your dog starting defecating and peeing all over your new carpet. It must be awkward for an actor to react in such a way and remain stood in the corner of a room; and to make use of the space and props given would be even more challenging.
What does an actor do in that situation? Our best advice is to continue screaming, but curl up into a ball?
