Kevin Smith has told the story of how shortly after Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back he got a call from Bob Weinstein, pitching the idea of an Abbot and Costello style horror comedy where the two stoners meet a horror icon.

Smith could choose from Halloween, Children Of The Corn and Hellraiser, with the latter idea being the one that held the most potential. The rough idea was the guys would solve the puzzle box and get sent to their own personal hell; a rehab clinic. Neither man took the idea seriously, however, so it never came to pass.

Surprisingly the best reaction to the concept came from Ben Affleck, who told Smith after he heard the idea “You know, at first I was going to say that’s ****ing retarded, but I bet you a lot of people would go see that movie.”
