9 Lovable Movie Characters Who Are Actually Insane

1. Daniel Hillard/Mrs. Doubtfire - Mrs. Doubtfire

mrs doubtfire A story of fighting for the right to be with one's family is touching even in the most insane circumstances. Some of the great insane villains have done terrible things with the simple intention trying to protect or connect with their bloodline. However, when the first plan of action in winning back your children and the trust of your ex-wife is to fabricate yourself as an older British woman and work as their nanny, there is a grain of insanity there. "Mrs. Doubtfire" is kind of a classic of its time, where there were a lot of these zany family comedies with far-fetched ideas that were just really entertaining and...well...what I've come to find nostalgic from childhood in the 1990s. Anytime someone jokes about a wild party, my first thought is the petting zoo birthday party toward the end of the film, when Sally Field enters the house to House of Pain's "Jump Around" and a goat walking by. Because of "Mrs. Doubtfire" playing a part in my childhood pop culture, I never fully considered the realistic implications of the storyline. Robin Williams fittingly plays a voice actor, so his obvious best move is to use that power to trick his ex-wife into hiring him as a full-blown British woman, even taking the time to work out serious prosthetic work. I mean, family is absolutely important, but this is bat shit nuts. Maybe the insanity in "Mrs. Doubtfire" is embedded so deep that it ends up working out for the best in the film. Maybe insanity, like it does for the great villains, must play a role in the great lovable movie characters.
