If you grew up enjoying the fantastic stop-motion animated Wallace & Gromit features, then the chances are you were left chuckling and even feeling a little emotional when Chicken Run clucked onto our screens in 2000.

With the poultry-centric picture earning critical acclaim and commercial success, fans thought it wouldn't be long before a second feathered-feature would be on its way. Yet, for the longest time it seemed like Aardman were too focused on other projects, leaving Ginger, Rocky and the gang in the darkness for nearly two decades.

Then, in April 2018, the studio incredibly announced that a Chicken Run sequel had been given the green light, with the original film's writers set to return to pen the script.

Yet, a bit of the excitement surrounding the flick suddenly evaporated this year when Julia Sawalha (who voiced Ginger) revealed that Aardman would be recasting her. Fans were quick to label this decision to recast one of the stars of the original film as ageist, with Sawalha herself claiming that she was plucked from the follow-up due to her voice sounding "too old".

If, like Sawalha claims, her "voice is nigh on the same as it was in the original film", then Aardman's decision to recast her seems like a seriously strange move. However, despite being ridiculously dropped from the sequel, the actor did still wish the team behind the flick the "best of luck and the greatest success with the sequel."

They don't deserve you, Julia.
