9 Upcoming 2014 Movies That Are Most Likely To Catch Us By Surprise

7. Frank

The production still for this film featuring Michael Fassbender in an Arcade Fire-esque papier mache head leads me to believe this could go one of two ways: either it€™s unbearably precocious or it€™s wholly, aggressively bizarre. Given the pedigree of screenwriters Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Jon Ronson (author of the book The Men Who Stare at Goats), I€™m resting comfortably on this being a case of the latter. Fassbender plays the titular Frank, the lead singer of an eccentric pop band, which has recently enlisted aspiring musician Jon (Domhnall Gleeson). Fassbender has yet to take on a truly comedic role (despite some snarkily arguing The Counselor fitting that bill) and could provide a startling bookend to his year, which also sees him reprising his role as Magneto in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
