9 Upcoming Movies That Are Unofficial Remakes

7. Booksmart = Superbad

Booksmart Superbad
United Artists Releasing & Columbia Pictures

Olivia Wilde's directorial debut Booksmart premiered at SXSW back in March and has scored universal critical praise so far, with countless critics comparing it favourably to the indelible 2007 coming-of-age classic Superbad.

Even a cursory glance at the film's trailer reveals a staggering number of similarities: two outcast high schooler protagonists (Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever) with a co-dependent relationship who are about to venture off to college, and decide to party their hearts out before they become "adults", which inevitably lands them in trouble with the cops.

The overall tone and visual style appear to be incredibly familiar, prompting some to dub it a "gender-swapped Superbad", though it certainly sounds like the film offers up enough of its own fresh perspective to be worthwhile on its own merits.

Superbad is pretty much the modern zenith of the teen comedy, so why bother emulating anything else?
