9 Ways The Batman V Superman Trailer Proves The Movie Will Suck

7. The Droning Music

Aside from rumours of shaky reliability, the only tangible thing known about the trailer pre-release (or leak) was that it was going to be scored by Hans Zimmer. The man behind such wondrous tracks as Inception's Time and The Dark Knight's defining theme was a logical choice as Dawn Of Justice's composer - he did the soundtrack for Man Of Steel, after all - and his pedigree lends the film a possible lifeline. There was the issue of him having to make another Batman theme (something he's outsourced to Junkie XL), but his involvement in the tease promised something pretty great. So what a let down that the music on the trailer is little more than a drone, with intermitted thuds reminiscent of Inception (a trend Zimmer himself started) and vaguely escalating drums. It's moody for sure, but is completely indistinct from what accompanies all the other moody trailers that clog up cinemas. There's obviously the downside to having to create totally new themes for a franchise restart - unlike Star Wars or Jurassic World the music can't lean back on popular, familiar motifs - but that's no excuse for throwing together something so thunderously generic.
