Ella Purnell is a real up and coming star, as she's had some solid performances in indie movies and got a great chance to shine here. Kate was a decent role for Purnell to sink her teeth into and could act as a great doorway to larger projects for her. But, it's not one she will be remembered for and will likely be a stepping stone in her future career.

Kate was crucial to the movie, thanks to her relationship with the lead. As Scott Ward's daughter, she was integral to his conflict and her desire to help a family survive the quarantine zone was noble. But that didn't mean her position amongst the gun-toting badass soldiers felt right.

She was let down by the fact that her antics often didn't gel with the team, as she had her own motives in mind and seemed to fall outside of the crew. Plus, her lack of tactical gear and established military training made her ultimate survival seem like an absolute fluke, especially as she took the most significant risks.

She had a serviceable role and a decent performance, but in the end, the character was lacklustre and didn't fit the action-packed movie's vibe properly.
