Arnold Schwarzenegger: Every Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
13. Stay Hungry (1976)
While many of his detractors have been more than eager to point out his limitations over the years, lets not forget that his performance in Bob Rafelson's dramatic comedy saw Arnold Schwarzenegger become a Golden Globe-winning actor. Taking third billing behind Jeff Bridges and Sally Field, the Austrian Oak receives an 'introducing' credit in what he considers his true big-screen debut. The plot of Stay Hungry is slapdash to say the least, and functions more as a string of loosely-connected sketches rather than a fully-developed narrative, but there are a few notable moments; Schwarzenegger as the fiddle-playing leader of a bluegrass band for one! Sure, the role of a bodybuilder training for the Mr. Universe competition wasn't much of a stretch, but it did show glimpses of the natural charm and charisma on which Arnie would go on to build his cinematic legacy.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
