4. Iron Man Retires

What Happens: Hawkeye's not the only Avenger with settling down in mind. Tony Stark may only be joking about following Clint's lead and making a farm for Pepper, but it's clear he's turning his back on Iron Man (for now), happy to leave Steve to take control of the New Avengers. What Does It Mean: Iron Man 3 likewise ended with Tony choosing a life with Pepper over his (many) suits of armour, something he only went back on when S.H.I.E.L.D. fell and they needed to mop up the Hydra mess/find Loki's staff. So, really, this a very in character choice for the hero, who's come a very long way since introducing the Jericho in the original Iron Man. Stark hanging up his shell means he can focus on other ideas. Like working with the government on superhero rights... Interestingly, he and Captain America part on good terms, meaning their fallout won't properly begin until Captain America: Civil War.
