Avengers: Endgame - 6 Big Ways The Trailer Could Be Lying To You
5. Cap Might Actually Have A Beard In The Movie
The trailer doesn't give us a look at bearded Cap, despite him sporting a rather hairy face in Infinity War. The natural assumption is that he's simply shaved it off in-between films, but since that's no fun whatsoever, let's discuss two possibilities: one, that Marvel digitally removed his beard for the trailer, and two, that beardless Cap is actually from the past, and hairy present-day Cap will still be in the film.
That first option is one that's cropped up in comment sections and forums in the days since the trailer debuted, but other than it being a funny jab at Warner Bros (and their embarrassing work with Henry Cavill's moustache in Justice League), it's hard to pinpoint exactly why Marvel would pull such a stunt.
One explanation is that they're simply messing with the fans and deliberately trying to throw them off, which actually wouldn't be all that surprising, considering they did something similar with the trailers for Thor: Ragnarok.
In the marketing campaign for that film, Thor could be seen with both eyes during a few pivotal scenes, but in the exact same scenes in the final film, he had one eye missing, after Hela cut it out.
When you consider the fact that Cap's shaven chinny-chin-chin looks unusually glossy and smooth - digitally-altered, you might say - and the shots he appears in are either static or have limited movement (i.e. they're easy to apply VFX to), there's a slim chance that Marvel chose to remove his beard just because they could.
The second possibility is that beardless Cap is actually a version of the character from a previous film. For one thing, the stealth suit he's wearing is the one he had in 2014's The Winter Soldier, which could be a subtle hint that the past will come back into play here. Maybe Endgame features bearded present-day Cap initially, but the Avengers then travel back in time to recruit another version of the character, and the stealth suit is just one they had lying around, or the past version could have brought it with him.
Plus, the Cap in the Endgame trailer looks a lot younger, his hair a touch lighter, and his face less grizzled than he did in Infinity War. But with half of the universe turned to dust, surely he'd be more stressed, upset, and would look worse than he did before?
It's also worth mentioning that the shots of Cap without a beard would likely have been filmed during the reshoots for Avengers 4; the clean-shaven Chris Evans we see in the trailer looks exactly like the clean-shaven Chris Evans who showed up for those reshoots in September.
This might indicate that every single Cap shot in the trailer - or even the trailer as a whole - was filmed during the reshoots, which, in turn, might indicate that all these shots were quick last-minute pickups that were filmed specifically for the trailer, and aren't actually going to be used in the movie.
But more on that later.
