Avengers: Infinity War: 10 Things That Must Happen
1. A Major Character Dies, And Stays Dead
It's one of the longest-running jokes in the MCU, but it's becoming less and less amusing each time it's used. On many, many occasions, a character (who is assumed dead or we actually see die), has magically returned from the grave, completely destroying the impact of the scene in which they 'perished.'
It removes any sense of danger from the universe and even worse, removes any tension from a scene that's building toward a character death. They'll be back soon, right?
It's happened with Loki in Thor: The Dark World, Nick Fury in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Groot in Guardians Of The Galaxy and Pepper Potts in Iron Man 3, to name a few. If this was just a one-time thing, or even a two-time thing, perhaps it would be forgivable, but when it feels like it happens in every movie, there's a problem. For Infinity War, a film that should carry a sense of grave danger, this is an issue that Marvel must iron out.
And there's only one way to do that - kill someone off. Of course, if a death isn't slotted naturally into the story then it shouldn't be forced, but if Marvel are able to send someone off in a logical, heroic fashion, then they must stay dead. While DC often get accused of being too dark, Marvel often get accused of being too light - and it's just as valid a criticism.
Because every time they resurrect a Loki, every time they revive a Pepper, their movie universe loses just another dash of integrity - and Infinity War needs all the integrity it can get.
