9. Red Skull Returns

It might have fit the story beautifully, but the return of Red Skull as the guardian of the Soul Stone was a legitimately shocking moment. Not only was it one of the best-protected spoilers in the history of comic book movies, but it was as strange and wonderful as you'd like from a film explaining the mythology of the Stone.

It might not have been Hugo Weaving behind the character - he was reportedly unhappy with playing Red Skull after The First Avengers - but The Walking Dead's Ross Marquand who is famed for his celebrity micro-impressions. He's clearly also very good at full impressions as he does a very passable Weaving for the most part.

This was both shocking and the perfect way to tie up his arc after his disappearance in the first Cap movie.
