5. Why Not Just Cut His Arm Off?

Quill's plan works out great when it comes to subduing Thanos - the heroes are able to use their combined powers and strength to hold him down while Mantis takes the chance to jump on him and effectively switch off his brain - but they come unstuck properly when they can't get the Gauntlet off his hand.

So, why exactly didn't they just cut off his arm and run away? It would have been instantaneous (and Tony Stark's nanotech or Doctor Strange's magical powers could easily have been used as a weapon) and wouldn't have allowed for any drama-building time delay.

It's not like the heroes should have felt any guilt for removing an arm, after all, and they would have got away with the Gauntlet scot-free. Plus, it would have explained why we saw Cull Obsidian having his arm cut off earlier in the movie, which looked like it was being used as foreshadowing.
