6. Peter Quill's Plan Includes Him Being An Idiot?

Eventually, the Guardians and Avengers alliance on Titan formulates a plan that ALMOST gets them a victory over Thanos when they get incredibly close to removing the Gauntlet after subduing him using Mantis' powers. It's clever and it actually gives her a reason for existing in the movie.

But then Star-Lord messes it all up - despite the fact that it was his plan - by questioning Thanos about Gamora and getting upset when he reveals he killed Gamora. So does that mean that his plan included him using Thanos' incapacitation to ask about Gamora all along? Did he not think that removing the Gauntlet first would have provided a better opportunity to find out about her fate? You know, when Thanos couldn't just snap out of it and smash them all up with the Stones...?

Obviously, the point of the sequence is to show that impassioned impulsiveness is the enemy of logic and preparation, but it definitely makes Quill look needlessly dumb.
