Though nobody knows how this is going to play out yet, we're told that Ant-Man & The Wasp will be important in Avengers 4 (as will Captain Marvel) because of the close ties to the multiverse, so presumably we'll see why that realm matters in Infinity War.

Obviously, opening up the possibility of multiverse travel through the microverse is a huge deal if it provides a means to defeat Thanos, but we shall see.

The other extremely important thing in Ant-Man is that it explains why Scott Lang probably won't be in Infinity War. As an absentee father. he's competing with paternal guilt, which is what partly makes him unavailable (he's also being tracked by the government after coming out of hiding after Civil War).
