Relevant Story Details

The big one in Vol 2 is the dynamic between Thanos' daughters Nebula and Gamora, as the former revealed exactly why she is so full of hate for her sister. Having resolved those issues, Nebula is offered a job in the Guardians team but turns it down in order to focus on her desire to make Thanos pay for what he did for her.

Next time we see her, she's going to be on that quest in Infinity War. Whether she'll succeed is an entirely different matter, despite her being the key to defeating him in the comics.

Other than that, Guardians Vol 2 is a pretty straight stand-alone movie - to the extent that there's not even an Infinity Stone in the post-credits.
