Batman: 8 Reasons Affleck Must Make Arkham Asylum (& 3 He Shouldn't)
7. It's Incredibly Clever
Despite the billing, Arkham Asylum isn't just an opportunity to drop a muscle-bound hero into a swarm of baddies and watch him fight his way out of it: it is a story loaded with subtext that explores the symbolism and pyschology of Batman's villains.
For all the fighting and the potential for numb-skulled, muscle-bound action, it is the book's ideas that really shine through in the end. The story is a deconstruction of the genre too, which should fit with what Zack Snyder has already built: he has been very vocal about his approach to what should perhaps be considered the "post-superhero movie" and deconstruction has been front and centre.
That's not to say Affleck should be taking notes from Snyder (who knows if he'll even still be involved in the DC universe by the time this comes out), but anything that encourages a deeper engagement with the content that also has the potential for fun should be welcomed whole-heartedly.
