Batman Vs Superman Movie: 10 Beautiful Details It Must Have
7. A Perry-Like Character
Laurence Fishburne was a big name for many fans when they heard that he would be in Man Of Steel. An esteemed actor, already huge in fantasy thanks to his role in the Matrix, it was thought that he would add something huge to this film. And he does; because Perry White might only be a small character, but he's a massively important one. As Lois zooms off to outer-space, getting caught up in the world of the Kryptonians and the genocide of a planet, we lose the only link we have to humanity: Superman is an alien, like it not. The enemies are likewise supervillains, and any emotional effect that their plans have on the Earth is nullified by Lois not actually being there to see it. That's not Amy Adams's fault: that's not her role in the film, but Fishburne's. He not only acted as the perfect "look what's happening to the people" character, he handled it with fantastic stoicism and created a deeply moving moment when he teared up, being unable to help another victim from the wreckage. Because humanity is the victim: it's so easy to forget that in a battle of aliens, but characters like Perry White ground the story, and give it the necessary gravitas.
