Batman vs Superman Movie: 10 Choices For Recasting Commissioner Gordon

6. The Authoritarian Commissioner: Edward James Olmos

Edward James Olmos The conflict between Batman and Gordon usually centres around this key difference €“ Gordon is a man who devoted his life to the law, whereas Batman fights for justice outside of conventional legal means. Whether he's mounting a bat signal to the roof, or running a police campaign to track down his former ally, Jim Gordon is defined by his relationship to Batman and the law. However, he's shown enough of himself away from the influence of Bruce Wayne's alter ego for us to know that he firmly believes that his work in Gotham City is important. It's easy to imagine a situation where the arrival of a third party in the form of Superman might tip the scales to force Gordon to choose between Gotham and Batman. A giant knock-down brawl between the two heroes, especially in the wake of the destruction of so much of Metropolis, might be enough to convince the Gotham authorities that neither Superman nor Batman can be trusted. Who could convincingly stand up to Batman? Well, a definite contender would be Edward James Olmos, a man who's no stranger to hard choices after years of playing Admiral Adama on Battlestar Galactica. His commanding presence would be enough to keep any dissenters from within the police quiet, and he's got the look of a man who might have lead the force through all the disasters that would have hit Gotham by this point, whether they be gang warfare, the rising dead or the martial rule of a psychotic Luchadore drug-addict. Plus, the man can rock that ever important moustache.
