Batman vs. Superman: Ranking The Films From Worst To Best

12. Batman & Robin (1997)

Let's just get it out of the way: Batman & Robin is a trainwreck of massive proportions. A failure as a Batman film, as a comic book film and just as a film in general, Joel Schumacher's second directorial go-round with the franchise continues to be considered by many to be one of the worst things committed to celluloid. Even Schumacher and George Clooney have apologized for stopping the series dead in its tracks until Christopher Nolan came along nearly a decade later to help audiences wash the bad, neon-infused taste out of their mouths. So if it's so terrible, you may be wondering why this film is actually one spot higher than Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Unlike that extremely forgettable film, Batman & Robin has left a lasting legacy of memorable things, from nipples on the Batsuit to Mr. Freeze's countless one-liners. Though it's an awful movie in every way, it's at least more entertaining than Superman IV in terms of how it entered pop culture and has continued to make us laugh at its disastrous swing (and miss) for the fences that the latter film didn't even bother taking. There's not much else that can be said about the film's failures that hasn't been covered in the years since its release, but for all two of you fortunate few who haven't seen it, know that it's just as bad as you may have heard, though it's now just a humorous curiosity for future generations to stumble upon that the franchise has mercifully bounced back from.
