Birds Of Prey - Every Character Explained

Maria Bertinelli, as her name suggests, is the mother of Helena Bertinelli, AKA Huntress. We’re yet to see her in the trailers, but the cast listing does confirm she’ll be in the film, played by Charlene Amoia.

With so little to go on, it’s hard to know exactly what direction they’ll take her in. As mentioned in Huntress’ own entry, she’s the head of a mafia crime family having an affair with a rival don. There’s certainly a rich pool to draw from, but it’s just a question of will there be enough time?

This isn’t a Huntress solo flick, after all. As well as explaining Harley’s new situation, introducing Huntress, Canary, Renee Montoya, mentoring Cassandra Cain and dealing with villains Victor Zsasz and Black Mask, is there even time for a mafia side story with Huntress and her mother?

With cinematic universes being the norm though, it doesn’t all have to be dealt with in one go. Perhaps Birds Of Prey could set Maria Bertinelli up for an arc later, though that would mean rejigging Huntress’ origin story to fit her mother being alive, well and still operating the mafia.
