Black Widow Movie: 10 Things It Must Include
3. Susanne Bier As Director
It's only a matter of time until Susanne Bier gets the chance to direct a comic book film, having made waves most recently with the seminal adaptation of John le Carré's The Night Manager, and it's precisely for that reason that she should direct Black Widow.
Apart from the fact that the BBC series was itself an espionage-themed tale, Bier's command of the source material was fantastic, and more than illustrative of why she should take the reigns on a Widow project should the opportunity arise. As an Academy Award winner, Bier would also be ideally suited to take Marvel to the next level, provided they give her the room to do so, of course.
Marvel have a lot of ground to make up in terms of gaining parity in regards to their directorial choices, with Patty Jenkins having left Thor: The Dark World when it was in pre-production, and with Anna Boden the only confirmed woman director working on a Marvel project. Hiring Bier would be a step in the right direction, and while Joss Whedon has reportedly been in contact with Scarlett Johansson for a potential Widow film, after Age of Ultron's controversy, a different choice is called for.
And again, The Night Manager was fantastic. Transfer that tension to a Black Widow film, and you have a surefire hit in waiting.
