Captain America: Civil War - 11 Things Learned From AsiaPop ComiCon Trailer
6. Crossbones Doesn't Do A Von Strucker
Thanks to Age of Ultron, to do a Von Strucker is now a thing in narrative terms. It means to be set up as a potentially important character at the end of one film, only to see your arc tied up brutally quickly at the start of the next, bypassing entirely your opportunity to play top-billing. That trend initially looked to be repeating in Civil War, after Crossbones was teased at the end of The Winter Soldier and it was revealed that the first key sequence will see him facing off with the New Avengers. But there is a hint in the new trailer that Crossbones will actually reappear after the Marketplace Battle as he appears in a different costume - or at least with a slightly different mask, complete with a yellow visor. So it would appear he is in at least two separate sequences. Of course there's a chance that footage could reflect a flashback in another part of Africa (it was intersected with shots of the film's African Institute For Infectious Disease suggesting an attack by the HYDRA assassin), which could ultimately fill in the gap surrounding the fate of Black Panther's father.
