Chadwick Boseman: Every Movie Ranked Worst To Best

9. 21 Bridges (2019)

21 Bridges features Boseman's only credit as a lead producer, and a performance so confident and arresting that it dwarfs every one of the film's narrative stumbles.

He stars as NYPD cop Andre Davis, who makes the bold decision to close down all twenty-one river crossings into Manhattan in order to stop two wanted murderers (Taylor Kitsch and Stephan James).

There are times when 21 Bridges trips up under the weight of its ambitions and plot cliches, but it nonetheless does a rare thing and makes sure there's little room for predictability. So fast-paced and claustrophobic in parts, it's an enrapturing experience that holds your attention through thick and thin.

Boseman's performance is obsessive, demanding and determined. He commands the whole thing, allowing the tension to remain high without giving too much away.

Of course, there's some cliched traits within his character - he's a cop because his father was killed, and he has a knack for hunting down cop-killers - but that's not enough to stop 21 Bridges from being a solid addition to Boseman's startling filmography.
