Comic-Con 2019: 10 Biggest Reveals You Need To See

7. Top Gun: Maverick's First Trailer Features Tom Cruise Actually Flying A Jet

Paramount not only revealed the first trailer for next summer's Top Gun: Maverick, but star Tom Cruise was also in attendance at Comic-Con and introduced the trailer himself.

Cruise called the sequel "a love letter to aviation", and the trailer's eye-wateringly beautiful flying footage certainly reflects that, regardless of how little it gives us about the film's plot or characters.

But the obvious highlight is seeing Cruise himself as Maverick, with countless cockpit-mounted shots showing off that, of course, Cruise is actually flying the jet himself. After flying a chopper for real in Mission: Impossible - Fallout, why would he settle for anything less?

Now, it's worth knowing that Cruise didn't do all the flying for the film, as his flight rating didn't allow him to command some of the film's more challenging aircraft, but he's nevertheless committed himself to making the film feel as visceral and "believable" as possible.

If nothing else, it should be a slick, gorgeous showcase for the thrill of flight.

Top Gun: Maverick releases on June 26, 2020.
