In the immediate wake of the first rumours that Kit Harington was set for talks to play a character in the MCU, Disney have just confirmed who he's playing at D23.

Harington will play Dane Whitman, otherwise know as the Black Knight, who has been linked to a role in the immediate future of the MCU for some time. He's set to appear in Eternals alongside fellow Game of Thrones alumni Richard Madden.

He's not an Eternal himself, but he's a great character. He was an Avenger and the modern day iteration of the Black Knight - after a long line of predecessors. Presumably, with the Eternals set in the past, he won't be coming to the modern day MCU? Unless they're going the time travel route again? His confirmation after lots of rumours of his impending arrival in the MCU and the planned use of his Ebony Blade as an Easter Egg in Infinity War. That was ultimately scrapped but at the time, it was said that they had plans to introduce Black Knight and then to take him onto other projects. Harington's casting certainly suggests a big role.

The panel also announced two more cast members: Barry Keoghan - who has been angling for an MCU role on Twitter for some time - will play Druig and Gemma Chan is playing Sersi.

Druig isn't a villain, but unlike the rest of the Eternals, he seeks additional power even at the expense of others, which would often bring him into conflict with the others, especially Ikaris. So consider him perhaps not so much a bad guy as a complex figure.

Sersi, meanwhile is another of the heroic team and ended up in a relationship with Dane Whitman in the comics, so we'll see if that plays out on screen too.
