DC Extended Universe: Ranking Every Upcoming Film By Anticipation
6. Aquaman
Release Date: July 27, 2018
In the wake of Furious 7's unbelievable success last year, Warner Bros. immediately snatched up director James Wan to direct their solo Aquaman film. Though the film is still over a year and a half away from release, fans got their first look at the character in Batman v Superman earlier this year ahead of his much larger role in the first Justice League.
Gone are the orange and green colors that have defined the character in pop culture for decades, with Warner Bros. and DC clearly trying to wash away the mainstream view of the character as little more than a joke. So far, actor Jason Momoa has done a solid job in the Justice League footage we've seen in reaffirming this idea, holding his own against Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne, and with that film also introducing longtime supporting characters like Willem Dafoe's Nuidis Vulko and Amber Heard's Queen Mera, the seeds are already being sown for his own adventure.
In all regards, those behind the film seem dead set on taking the character and his story seriously, with Momoa in particular frequently on record about how excited he is to be a part of the DCEU.
Aquaman has every opportunity to be visually stunning and suitably epic, lifting the character above the mainstream stigma against him from the general public, and it's hard not to keep our fingers crossed that his solo outing - and his role in the rest of the DCEU, for that matter - is knocked out of the park.
