It was only two weeks ago that fans everywhere (guilty as charged) heralded Avengers: Infinity War as the greatest Marvel movie ever made. Now, on the eve of Deadpool 2's release, the title could be heading elsewhere - at least according to a few observers.
In any case, the fact that people are lavishing Deadpool 2 with so much praise should give cause for excitement. The first film, while enjoyable in many respects, didn't get nearly the same amount of buzz that the sequel is getting, and though it's equally true that Infinity War has over ten years' worth of films to tell its story, that doesn't mean it qualifies as the best comic book film by default.
Could Deadpool 2 actually beat Infinity War? Perhaps yes, perhaps not - but it's clearly along the right path with all the praise it's receiving.
