2. Secret War

The singular Secret War may not be as famous as its blockbuster (plural) predecessor Secret Wars, but it has a fascinating concept.

Centred around a covert superhero-led invasion of Doctor Doom's Latveria spearheaded by Colonel Nick Fury, the book sees the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director call in favours from Steve Rogers, Matthew Murdock (Daredevil), Natasha Romanoff, Logan and Peter Parker (Spider-Man) in order to complete a Black-Op right under the nose of Lucia Von Bardas, who he suspects to be involved in a terrorist plot against the United States.

Secret War was both timely and interesting when it was first published fourteen years ago, and a strong enough tale to carry on over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe today as well. The involvement of Daredevil is an obvious draw, with Marvel Studios still yet to sync their plans up with Marvel TV, and with Latveria, Wolverine, and other Marvel characters to choose from, Secret War could prove to be yet another spy thriller in Disney's flagship franchise.

Oh, and you can consult Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 for a brief overview of the story. (If you want.)
