Disney Pixar's Brave To Close Edinburgh 2012 Film Festival On June 30th

This will be the European premiere of Pixar's first original animated effort in the three years since Up.

We'd expected this for a while given its setting but the official announcement has just come confirming that Disney-Pixar's Brave will be the closing night film at the 66th Edinburgh International Film Festival on June 30th. This will be the European premiere of Pixar's first original animated effort in the three years since 2009's Up. The fantasy film set in the mythical Scottish highlands doesn't actually open in the UK until August 13th so it's a screening two months early for us here but Brave will hit US screens on June 22nd, 2012. Directed by Brenda Chapman and Mark Andrews, Brave is the first movie from Pixar that follows a female lead and features the voices of Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane. Merida (Macdonald) is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (Coltrane). Merida€™s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it€™s too late. Disney-Pixar have been rather secretive with the film as they tend to be with their original efforts but as we are just a few months away from release we are starting to get a good feel for just how grand-scale this movie is going to be. A Japanese trailer for Brave was unearthed by Bleeding Cool recently that offers a few new glimpses at footage; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8cLhckSAAw&feature=player_embedded Will Brave be a bold return to the quality of the original fables like Ratatouille, Up and Wall-E? We'll find out in June.
